Hoya linearis is one of the most unique species in the Hoya family, featuring long, slender, cylindrical leaves that resemble fuzzy green needles or curtains. Unlike its waxy-leaved cousins, this plant has a soft, slightly hairy texture. It is a true trailing masterpiece, perfect for creating a "living curtain" effect. When happy, it produces clusters of white, lemon-scented flowers that drape beautifully from the ends of its vines.

PlantJoyCo Care Guide

How to Care for Your Hoya linearis

A delicate-looking but fast-growing trailing plant that adds soft texture to your home.

  • Light: Bright indirect light is best. Higher light encourages the lemon-scented blooms.
  • Water: Check weekly; water when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry.
  • Humidity: 60–80% (loves higher humidity to keep the foliage lush).
  • Temperature: 15–25°C (Prefers slightly cooler nights).

FAQ

Q1: Why are the top leaves of my Hoya Linearis turning yellow and drying up?

A1: This is usually caused by underwatering or low humidity at the crown of the plant. Because Hoya linearis has thinner leaves than other wax plants, it cannot tolerate being left bone-dry for weeks. Water as soon as the potting mix dries out completely.

Q2: How do I make my Hoya Linearis look fuller at the top of the pot?

A2: To create a fuller look, you can easily take stem cuttings, root them in water or damp sphagnum moss, and plant them back into the top of the pot. Also, ensure the top of the plant receives bright indirect light so it doesn't go bald.

Q3: Is Hoya Linearis safe for households with pets?

A3: Yes! Like other members of the Hoya family, Hoya linearis is entirely non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a perfectly safe, worry-free choice for hanging displays.
